With a dominating victory against Egypt’s Mayar Sherif in her last qualifier, British youngster Emma Raducanu qualified for the US Open main draw for the first time.

Raducanu, who just entered into the world’s top 100, defeated fourth seed Sherif 6-1 6-4.

“It’s a wonderful feeling of accomplishment, and I’m very proud of myself,” she added.

Katie Boulter will also compete in the main draw of the New York Open for the first time after defeating Kristina Kucova of Slovakia.

The 25-year-old British player overcame some physical difficulties in the heat to defeat eighth seed Kucova 7-5 2-6 6-4.

Boulter required the trainer and doctor in the second set, when she trailed 5-0, after edging the first set with a break of serve in the 12th game.

Because of the heat, the duo had a 10-minute break before the decider, and after trailing 4-2, Boulter won the last four games to advance to the first round, which begins on Monday at Flushing Meadows.

“I was suffering a little bit, I hadn’t played too many matches since Wimbledon, and the heat was terrible out there,” Boulter remarked.

“After a lengthy match yesterday, it got to me in the second set.” There wasn’t much time before the contest today. I didn’t have a lot of energy, and I didn’t have a lot of power.

“The doctor prescribed some medication to assist with my nausea, and it worked. I thought I done a fantastic job of figuring out how to get out of it.”

Only one other British player, Harriet Dart, has advanced to the third and final round of qualifying, where she will face Bulgarian 12th seed Viktoriya Tomova later on Friday.

In the women’s singles draw, the 25-year-old Londoner hopes to join Johanna Konta, Heather Watson, Raducanu, and Boulter.

Raducanu backs up his Wimbledon success in New York.

Raducanu, who made her Grand Slam debut with a remarkable run to the Wimbledon last 16 as a wildcard, now has the opportunity to excel at her first foreign major.

It was another confident effort from the world number 150, who has three victories in the Flushing Meadows heat this week to go along with her Wimbledon triumphs.

She had to withdraw from her fourth-round match at the All England Club due to dizziness and respiratory problems, and she said this week that she needed to “physically become stronger and have greater endurance.”

Raducanu served effectively against Sherif throughout the match, sealing victory with an ace out wide on her third match point – and first on service.

After qualifying for a Grand Slam for the first time, the youngster, who was granted a wildcard for Wimbledon, burst out into a dazzling grin and joyously lifted both arms in the air.

“It’s a great feeling to go to the main draw on my own,” Raducanu said. “I want to make the most of every chance I have.”

“The weather was extreme for everyone, and it was tough to play in the heat.” [On Thursday night], I did a lot of recuperation and did all I could to give myself the greatest opportunity.

“If I were to lose, my physique, in my opinion, would have been the deciding factor. So I’m overjoyed, and I felt very well out there.”
